BLANKgallery will participate in the 2024 edition of Tokyo Gendai, presenting artist DAZHI's first solo overseas exhibition, featuring the artist new series of works. DAZHI focuses on exploring intimacy and relationships between the external and internal through painting. The new series combines contemporary queer experiences with Roman mythology, touching on cultural symbols, fashion, and corporeality, presenting creations that bridge Eastern and Western cultures.
In DAZHI's paintings, spontaneity is key, but there is an emphasis on emotional depth and the precision of abstraction. The seemingly spontaneous elements are carefully crafted, instead of uncontrolled and chaotic expression. This balance of seeking order within the spontaneous captures the rhythm of life, transcending narrative and fostering immediate empathy with the viewer.
Combining significant historical themes with contemporary experiences, DAZHI transforms from someone who experiences the story to a narrator. This narration does not become constrained or simplified within the canvas; instead, layered works are created that convey the artist's sense of vitality and the freedom flow within it.
