Shi Xiaobo was born in Jiangsu Province in 1985, and graduated from MuralDepartment of Public Art Institute, China Academy of Art (CAA) in 2011. He now works and lives in Shanghai/Hangzhou. Shi Xiaobo pays specific attention to the definition of painting as the expression medium and system. Putting aside the dependence on the objective world or concepts, he focuses on the creation process of painting, and re-introduces elements such as colors, shapes and darkness levels of pigments, so as to reshape the sense of heaviness and feel the apparent physical existence from the viewing process. His concentrated visual expression is embedded into new modes of shape in the non-figurative world, and by transforming the self-experience into blurry but metaphorical lines, and constructing in paintings and sculptures, he looks for the symbol of paintingthat was lost after the emergence of minimalism.
Simultaneously, he constantlyexamines the balance between chaos and harmony, trying to discover a way to coordinate the objects and metaphors, in order to place the works at the intersections of reality and imagination.Shi Xiaobo's works have been shortlisted for the 2nd John Moores Painting Prize(China), and exhibited in/collected by Westlake Museum of Contemporary Art,Ningbo Museum of Art, SPSI Art Museum, Sanshang Art in Hangzhou, etc.
